What each part is, and what it fixes on a TJ

The track bar is the single link that stops the front axle moving side to side. On a TJ it runs from a bracket on the driver-side frame rail to a bracket on the passenger side of the axle. The factory bar is a fixed length.

Because the bar swings through an arc, lifting the Jeep pulls the axle toward the driver side. The wheels no longer sit centered in the fenders.

An adjustable track bar lets you change its length until the axle is centered again. That is the whole job, and it is why a track bar tops our list of what a lift breaks.

Passenger side Driver side vehicle centerline frame rail track bar A B Measure A and B at the same fixed point on each side. If they differ, the axle is off center. shorter bar: axle moves toward driver side longer bar: axle moves toward passenger side
Both bars center the axle the same way. Measure the same point on each side, then lengthen or shorten the bar until the numbers match.

Rough Country 7572 is a bent tube with a rubber-bushed eye at the axle and a threaded tie-rod end at the frame. You set the length by turning the tie-rod end in or out. Rough Country calls it a redesign that is "now 33% stronger" than its earlier bar.

JKS JKSOGS126 keeps a rubber bushing at the axle. At the frame it swaps the factory tapered stud for a 2.5 in. flex ball in a polyurethane bushing, held by a bolt that passes right through the bracket. You adjust it by turning the axle end on fine threads.

JKS publishes two "will not fit" cautions. The bar does not suit right-hand-drive Jeeps. On a Dana 30 axle with an aftermarket differential cover and less than 3.0 in. of lift, you may need to adjust the bump stops to prevent interference.

Rough Country publishes no exclusions for any TJ trim. JKS's own spec table says "Lift Height Rating 3-4 in.", while the title, description and fitment list all say 1 to 3.5 in. We go with the majority.

The real difference is the frame end. Rough Country keeps the factory design of a tapered stud in a tapered hole. JKS replaces it with a through-bolt and a rebuildable spherical bushing that you grease.

Neither maker gives full numbers. Rough Country publishes its tube size but not the alloy or the length range.

JKS publishes the length range but not the tube size for this part number. Its heavier HD bar (JKSOGS128) is listed as 1.25 in. x 0.250 in. DOM.

JKS's product page says a grease fitting is "not included". Its install sheet shows a grease zerk on the chassis end and has you grease through it. Expect the fitting on the part.

Install compared

Rough Country's job never leaves the ground. The Jeep sits at ride height the whole time. You set the bar to a starting length, bolt it in with the factory hardware, then check centering with a plumb bob from each coil hat to the brake caliper.

If the two numbers differ, you unbolt the rod end and adjust. When it is centered, the jam nut goes to 75 ft-lb. Rough Country quotes 2-3 hours and says to re-torque everything after 500 miles.

JKS adds a drilling step. You enlarge the tapered frame-bracket hole with a 9/16 in. bit, fit the tapered split cone and torque the new bolt to 110 ft-lb. If the bushing flange does not sit flush, you file the cone until it does.

JKS then has you center the axle first, with a ratchet strap or by having a helper turn the wheel. You spin the axle end until the bushing lines up and torque the factory axle bolt to 50 ft-lb. Re-torque comes after 150 miles, and the chassis end gets non-petroleum grease.

Rough Country's starting-length table runs from 31.312 in. at stock height to 31.940 in. at 4.5 in. That is only 0.628 in. of change. The small range tells you centering is a fine adjustment, not a big one.

What it changes on the Jeep, and what else you'll need

Both bars do one thing: put the front axle back in the middle. Neither includes a drop bracket, and neither install sheet mentions one. Neither changes the angle the bar runs at, so the track bar and drag link still diverge at height.

That divergence matters because it is the geometry behind bump steer and death wobble. Our death wobble guide puts the track bar and its frame bracket first in the check order. The tapered hole in that bracket can wallow out over time.

Here the designs split. The Rough Country bar drops a new stud into the old tapered hole, so a worn hole stays worn.

The JKS install drills that hole out and clamps a new bolt through a tapered cone, which takes the worn taper out of the picture. That is our reading of the two install sheets, not a claim either maker makes.

On a Dana 30 with a big aftermarket cover and under 3 in. of lift, budget time for the bump stop adjustment JKS warns about. Otherwise the supporting list is the usual one for a lifted TJ: caster, bump stops, brake lines and sway bar links.

Warranty and support

JKS: a lifetime warranty to the original buyer. JKS says "If any JKS product breaks, we will replace the product at no cost to you!" and names bushings and flex joints as covered. Tie rod ends and spherical bearings are excluded as wear items, finish claims are limited to 12 months, and labor is not covered.

Rough Country: its warranty page offers a "Lifetime Replacement Warranty on most suspension products". Hard components carry lifetime cover for welds, cracks and breakage. "Bushings, Ball Joints, Etc" get 1 year, and paint and finishes get 1 year.

The page does not name track bars. Our reading is that the tube is a hard component, while the rubber bushing and tie-rod end fall into the 1-year wear tier. Rough Country also offers a 90-day satisfaction return, and removal and installation costs are excluded.

Owner reports

Owner reports, not specs. The one review on the JKS product page calls it "Great quality". The same reviewer says the clip on the frame-end joint popped off while the mechanic was installing it.

The JKS parts list shows a snap ring on that joint. Check it is seated before the bar goes in.

We found no published owner reports for the Rough Country 7572 in this research pass. The Rough Country site blocked automated access, and forum searches on Reddit and WranglerForum were not reachable. We will add owner reports when we can read them.

Who should buy which

Buy the Rough Country 7572 if the budget is tight or you want no drilling. It is also the one to pick for a 4 to 4.5 in. lift, which is past what JKS rates this bar for. At $126.00 less, it does the centering job with the factory hardware.

Buy the JKS JKSOGS126 if your frame bracket is worn or you want to rebuild the joint rather than replace the bar. You also get a published length range and a lifetime warranty that covers the bushings.

Overall winner for a TJ with 2 to 3.5 in. of lift that you plan to keep: JKS. For a budget build, or a lift taller than 3.5 in., the Rough Country is the better fit.

FAQ

Do I have to drill anything to fit the JKS JKSOGS126?

Yes. The JKS instructions have you enlarge the tapered hole in the driver-side frame bracket with a 9/16 in. drill bit, then run a 9/16 in. bolt through a tapered split cone. The Rough Country 7572 needs no drilling. It reuses the factory hardware at both ends.

Will the JKS JKSOGS126 work on a 4 in. lift?

JKS titles and describes this bar for 1 to 3.5 in. of lift, although one line in its spec table says 3-4 in. JKS lists a separate front bar for 4 in. and up. The Rough Country 7572 is rated for 1.5 to 4.5 in., so it covers a 4 in. lift on paper.

Will either bar stop death wobble?

Only if the old track bar or its frame-side joint was the loose part. Both replace the most common source of play on a TJ front end. Neither fixes worn tie rod ends, ball joints or a loose steering box.

Do both fit the LJ Unlimited?

Yes. Rough Country's catalog title covers the Wrangler Unlimited 2004-2006, and JKS lists the Wrangler TJ and LJ for 1997-2006.
