Rough Country 1071 vs BDS BDS124327: TJ fixed-length lower control arms

This is the closest match of the three rivals we compared against the 1071. Both are one-length tubular arms with rubber bushings, sold as a pair, and priced within about fifty dollars of each other.
The gap is in the fine print, or in BDS's case the lack of it. BDS will replace the arm and its bushings whatever you did to them. Rough Country will replace the arm, but the bushings get a year.

What these arms are, and why a lifted TJ needs them
Each TJ axle is located by four control arms, two upper and two lower. When a lift drops the axle, the stock lower arms run at a steeper angle. Their reach shrinks, and the axle is drawn toward the frame.
BDS says its arms are "longer than stock to reposition the axle" and "formed for additional ground clearance." Rough Country says the 1071 "allows for greater articulation off-road." It makes no claim about length against stock.

Will not fit, or not recommended:
- Rough Country 1071. Recommended for a TJ with a 4 in lift. No stock-height use is listed.
- BDS BDS124327. Rated for 2 to 4.5 in. The text says it is "designed for 4.5" lifted Jeeps," while the spec field reads 2-4 in.
If you own an LJ, note that BDS names only the TJ in its title and install sheet. The LJ appears in its store tags. Rough Country lists the LJ in plain words.
Specs and construction
BDS describes "heavy-duty construction" with both ends "fully welded" and pre-installed OE-style rubber bushings. The finish is a textured black powder coat, and the arms come "fully assembled, ready to install."
Rough Country says steel, tubular, hammered black powder coat and pre-pressed rubber bushings. Quadratec gives its length as 16.27 in center to center.
Neither maker publishes tube size or wall thickness. BDS also publishes no length and no weight. On paper, Rough Country's distributor-listed length is the only dimension either side offers.

Install compared
Rough Country states 3-4 hours and recommends a certified technician. Its sheet assumes a lift install, with coil springs unloaded and front shocks disconnected. It gives one torque figure, 130 ft-lbs, and a re-torque after 500 miles.
BDS publishes no time. Its sheet swaps both arms on a supported axle, and it starts by marking the front eccentric cams. It suggests disconnecting the track bar so the axle stays centered while you line up the bolts.
BDS fits the arms "bend is down and closer to the front axle," with the bolts left loose until ride height. You lower the Jeep and bounce it to settle, then torque. It also asks for a fastener check at 500 miles.
The torque numbers do not match. BDS gives 85 ft-lbs at the front axle, and 130 ft-lbs at the rear axle and frame. Rough Country gives 130 ft-lbs for everything. Check the factory service manual before you pick one.
Neither part needs drilling, cutting or welding.
What it changes on the Jeep, and what else you need
BDS says its longer arm is designed "to correct front axle positioning." Rough Country makes no length claim for the 1071. Neither maker makes a caster claim for the fixed arm.
Both are one length. On axles with factory eccentric cams at the front lower mounts, those cams are the only fine adjustment left. BDS sells adjustable sister arms, the BDS124340 and BDS124360, for owners who need more range.
New lower arms do not finish a lift on their own. The track bar, bump stops, brake lines and driveline come next, and we cover them in what a TJ lift actually breaks.
Warranty and support
BDS calls its policy the No Fine Print Warranty. It protects the original retail purchaser "against breakage, bending, sagging, or any other usage failure." It "includes a lifetime warranty on bushings." Only finish and listed wear items are excluded, and those items are shocks, ball joints and tie rod ends.
BDS pays ground shipping on warranty parts. Removal, installation and expedited freight are excluded, and proof of purchase is required.
Rough Country gives control arms a Lifetime Replacement Warranty for "welds, cracks, or breakage," and bushings 1 year. We quote its policy from an archived copy dated 17 July 2019, because the live site blocks automated reading.
BDS and JKS print the same Coldwater, Michigan address on their install sheets. If you are weighing BDS against JKS as well, the two warranties read alike on bushings.

- 2 to 3 in lift: BDS BDS124327. It is rated for that range. Rough Country recommends the 1071 for 4 in.
- LJ owners who want written fitment: Rough Country 1071. BDS lists the LJ only in its store tags.

Is the BDS124327 front only on a TJ?
The BDS product page calls it a front lower arm. The BDS install sheet is headed front or rear installation and tells TJ owners working on the rear to block the front wheels. We follow the install sheet: front or rear on a TJ.
Does the BDS124327 fit the 2004-2006 LJ Unlimited?
The BDS product page names the TJ, and its fitment tags include Unlimited and Unlimited Rubicon. The install sheet says 1997-2006 Jeep TJ only. Rough Country lists the 2004-2006 Wrangler TJ Unlimited outright.
Why do the two install sheets give different torque values?
Rough Country gives one value, 130 ft-lbs. BDS gives 85 ft-lbs at the front axle and 130 ft-lbs at the rear axle and frame. We do not publish a torque of our own, so check the factory service manual for your Jeep.
Are the bushings covered by the warranty?
